Some thoughts on this model
The Carrera 2.7 MFI was the direct successor to the Carrera 2.7 RS and by a quirk of legislation were actually built is smaller numbers. Just 1,036 Coupe's and 433 Targa's were ever built, against a total production run of 1,580 for the original Carrera 2.7 RS; least we not forget they were also more expensive than its earlier brethren too!
Apart from the US cars, where the power output was down by circa 15-20bhp, for all intents and purposes, the two cars share very similar DNA.
Suspension and brakes are the same, although anti-roll bars are different sizes, as are the slightly flared rear wheel arches, where it's shod with very lovely 8' (215/60) & 7' (195/65) Fuch's. Lets-us not forget the lovely ducktail, arguably, the most-imitated, replicated and cloned Porsche body part in history !
Fun fact: only 4 Porsches ever left the factory with a ducktail, 73 Carrera RS, 73 Carrera RSR, 74 IROC, albeit only temporarily, and of course, our car here being the 74 Carrera.
Turning to our car here, it's an immaculate matching numbers 911 Carrera 2.7 MFI that was originally delivered via the German dealer Porsche Hahn Stuttgart, and remains today totally as per its original factory build specification.
Post delivery it spent some time in France before returning to Germany during 2013 and into the capable hands of Michael Roock at his renowned Roock Sportsystems GmbH 'shop' in Leverkusen, near Cologne for complete restoration.
The car was fully dismantled and stripped to bare mental and found to be totally accident free, whilst the original floors were also perfect and still in their original protective cladding therefore left well alone.
Evidently there were other parts of the car that could be reused, the dashboard unusually wasn't cracked, rear seats and original Blaupunkt Hirschmann all survive intact, otherwise everything was replaced or renewed correctly.
From being fully painted, to a complete engine rebuild, the list works is immense and is fully itemised by Roock. Briefly, the engine received new bearings, Mahle pistons and barrels, new valves and guides along with the absurdly complex rebuild of the injection pump. The car was repainted & re-upholstered as per its COA in Light Green (N9N9) and black watch tartan. Make no mistake this was a comprehensive job.
The result of their year long endeavour is that we now have a perfectly preserved Porsche which as of today, has only cover a few thousand miles since completion. So we're ready to go, its just literally been serviced by a notable Porsche specialist.
They make for an exhilarating drive, agile, really well planted and taut in every respect. I distinctly happen to prefer this driving position, especially so in air-cooled 911s as your legs are straight ahead, rather than sprayed left, as is the case in a right-hand drive example.
Today it's not uncommon to see RS Tourings fetch north of half-a-million pounds, one could make the case that the 2.7 Carrera is still something of a bargain especially when as good as this.
It would be a pleasure to answer any questions you might have. However, to really appreciate this lovely Porsche, it needs to be seen “in the flesh”, so do please call me directly on +44(0)7788 865700 to arrange a viewing.
