Some thoughts on this model
It's a real treat for us to offer & welcome this exceedingly rare first year of production Porsche 911 model here at Redhill.
The first 911 coupe was almost delicate-looking, with chrome accents around the windows and bumpers along with chrome steel wheels with flat hubcaps similar to the 356’s. The Porsche name was written out across the tail in block letters with 911 in script just above and to the right of the maker’s name, and below a large single air in take at the top of the lid. Breathing in through twin Solex carburettors, the original 2.0-liter 911 flat-six made an impressive SAE gross 130horsepower, which was enough, claimed Road & Track, to push the car to 60 mph in 9.0 seconds and to a top speed of 134 mph.
The 1965 911 was a tiny machine packed with high-tech pieces. In an era where most sports cars offered a four-speed manual transmission as standard equipment, the 911 had five forward gears. The 911 had a sophisticated semi trailing arm and torsion-bar-sprung independent rear suspension that was also a big step forward from the swingarms used on the 356. Up front, the 911 used MacPherson struts and a precise ZF rack-and-pinion steering gear. The first 911 also carried Dunlop disc brakes and rode on P165HR15 radial tyres.
Given all of the above, its wonderful to contrast against a similar 911 we have in stock, albeit a car that's 3 years younger, and notice details that set these special original cars apart from the crowd.
According to the Certificate of Authenticity chassis number 301224 left the factory with the following options; Light ivory, Blaupunkt radio, chrome wheels, electric antenna and Webasto heating system and was delivered to the famous “Competition Motors” in North Hollywood owned by the West Coast racer John von Neumann later in 1965.
This 901 has a known history of ownership from day one and latterly a complete analysis of its restoration via the renowned Roock Sportsystems Gmbh, which of course is properly detailed in the history file. Infact, Michael Roock personally inspected and purchased this car for & behalf of the current owner, and then was instructed to by him to set about its full nut & bolt restoration.
Prior to restoration the car was 100% complete and was in remarkable condition retaining all of its original components. Fortunately, having been in a semi desert and dry climate, the body shell required very little in the way of rot repairs and apart from new front wings the remainder of the body shell is original. Importantly. the car is fully matching and even retaining its original date stamped wheels.
This car represents a very rare opportunity to acquire a beautifully restored and very original, fully matching numbered 1965 Porsche 911 Coupe finished in its original colour scheme.
It would be a pleasure to answer any questions you might have. However, to really appreciate this Porsche, it needs to be seen “in the flesh”, so do please call me directly on 01737 844999 to arrange a viewing.
