Some thoughts on this model
Little is know of its early movements until it appeared 14 years later in 1975 in Peter Mitchells famous photograph, 'Kingston Racing Motors, Sunday, Spring 1975, 4pm, Olinda Terrace, Leeds', now seemingly blown over in primer having evidently led a hard life ! (as an aside, nevertheless pleasing, the authors hard back book forms part of the vehicle history - widely regarded today as a landmark publication in the early history of the British colour documentary photography movement).
The car embarked on the next stage of its history in the early eighties, by which time it had been acquired by the music promoter Geoff Jukes who at the time managed Kate Bush, Bob Geldof and a number of other notable British musicians and bands. Subsequently restored by Jukes in the late 1990's in Germany where upon it was purchased and repatriated a little later by it's current owner, a well known UK motoring enthusiast and journalist.
After using it for a few years it became apparent that further works would be necessary and it was deemed sensible at this stage to undertake a complete restoration. The 356 was stripped back to bare metal together and completely rebuilt to its original factory specification including the removal and total overhaul of both engine and gearbox.
With original matching numbers for chassis, gearbox and engine, plus a photographically documented restoration with recent invoices exceeding £70,000, it now represents a fine and accurate example of the 150 or so surviving RHD 356s.
