Julien's Perspective

Some thoughts on this model

I remember queueing for hours outside the Odeon Leicester Square to see the 'Spy Who Loved Me' and being totally mesmerised by the Esprit and a little of Barbara Bach too ! So much so, I've owned a couple and currently have a HC, as think the razor-edge lines and shape is still as relevant today as it was then.

This particular car was signed off from production on 1st October 1976 and was actually the 68th production car destined for renowned Lotus Dealers Bell & Colvill Ltd.....pleasingly it remains as originally built being finished in Orange (IS04) with a tartan interior.

Interestingly being an early car, it had self colour paint, essentially where the paint colour was added to the gel coat, later production turned to actually painting the tub & the name changed to 'Colorado Orange'.

Famously this car was found amongst a number of other classics in a Cornish barn....remaining very much intact but in need of total restoration....the process was covered on a regular basis by Absolute Lotus and works undertaken by the mechanically able owner himself, but obviously outsourcing to established and known specialists along the way with an emphasis on retaining original parts wherever possible

What materialises, albeit now 5 years later, is still utterly spectacular...the orange livery looks stunning and perfectly shows off Giugiaro's genius. The green tartan interior again matches the exuberant exterior and has been beautifully appointed. Mechanically everything was rebuilt.

In current ownership further monies have been spent drilling down on details, replacing parts and assemblies, simply adding a further level of detail from when it won 'Best of the Best' at 2019 Goodwood Revival.

Everything now on point after a recent pre-sale inspection/service and carb overhaul.

Thank God for the likes of Chapman who took the line that 'rules are for the obedience of fools and interpretations of smart men'! Come and see it, you won't be disappointed

It would be a pleasure to answer any questions you might have. However, to really appreciate this Lotus, it needs to be seen “in the flesh”, so do please call me directly on 07788 865700 to arrange a viewing.
