Some thoughts on this model
Ground-breaking at the time of its launch, the Lancia Aurelia was the first production car to implement a V6 engine which instantly proved a success, with famous class victories at the Mille Miglia, Le Mans Targo Florio and during 1954, Lancia's first Monet Carlo Rally win.
The Series 6 was the culmination of continuous refinement and evolution that began with the original B20 in 1951. By the time production ended in 1958, the Lancia Aurelia B20 GT had solidified its place as one of the greatest grand tourers of the 1950s. The Series 6, in particular, represented the pinnacle of Lancia's engineering prowess and design finesse, making it a sought-after classic.
As a 6th Series car this B20 GT is fitted with the larger 2.5 Litre engine, producing 112bhp with a top speed of 11mph, paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox.
Built on 31st March 1958 this Aurelia is a matching number example, as confirmed by the Lancia Certificate of Origin, and is thought to be just one of 1 of 25 cars supplied to UK RHD market.
Incredibly well documented throughout its life the history file contains a dense log of ownership and maintenance.
The car emerged from a meticulous 2015 restoration at the hands of much respected Aurelia specialist Peter Harding plus an engine rebuild courtesy of yet another Lancia known specialist, Tim Burrett; impressively file invoices total over £50,000.
Over 380 hours alone spent on the body work which was taken back to bare metal being prepared prior to it been painted in a stunning two tone finish of Blu Scuro and Grigio. Further mechanical works included branched stainless steel exhaust fabricated to the original specification, providing a small weight saving plus increased durability.
Recent works costing a smidgen under £5,000, includes refurbishment of front brakes & brake cylinders, service, fitment of radiator fan and retempered springs.
Most recently the car has been used and enjoyed around the hills of Derbyshire, but prior to this, it was shown and took part at various Concours events including, Windsor & Salon Privee and was prominently displayed in the Rotunda at the RAC in Pall Mall. In fact, a rather beautifully illustrated photographic book accompanies the history of its time there.
Present in first class order together with a comprehensive history file, Lancia Classiche Certificate and significantly, UBS images of its bare metal restoration allowing one total satisfaction a job exceptionally well done.
