Julien's Perspective

Some thoughts on this model

We are thrilled to welcome back this superb early Shadow saloon. Being an earlier build car, it has both the rather elegant Chippendale dashboard plus some further short lived interior chrome work which really sets these saloons apart from the later Series One's.

There's an interesting back story too, as the first owner requested from his supplying dealer, in this case, Wadhams of Waterlooville, that the car was painted and finished as per his old Rover 90. Apparently it took some persuasion but ultimately he managed to win them over, and his special order of Saxe Green over deep Saxe Green along dark Green hide was eventually placed with Crewe....the end result even some 56 years later, is still visually stunning. Good old Mr Sadler!

He also specified air-conditioning, a rare option in period but thankfully still remaining with the car. As you will notice from the rear compartment, rear picnic tables were also optioned, all adding the overall lovely ambience.

The mileage stands at a smidgeon under 100,000 miles, which amounts to an impressively small yearly average of just 1,750 miles...so just run in!

During 2022 we have carried out extensive recommissioning (£12,000 invoice on file) to the brakes, suspension, exhaust including a new set of Avon white wall tyres which have seen minimal wear.

Evidently a treasure possession, as each of its three owners has responsibly cared for this lovely Shadow. Lovely to see its original tool kit, handbook and folder all in situ plus copies of the factory build sheets too.

It would be a pleasure to answer any questions you might have. However, to really appreciate this Rolls-Royce, it needs to be seen “in the flesh”, so do please call me directly on 07788 865700 to arrange a viewing.
