Some thoughts on this model
One of my firm favourites as this era Corniche amplifies all the grace of the earlier Mulliner Park ward cars, without the more robust looking stance and large bumpers of later versions.
One might say this is story of two parts...
The first being the last keepers unmitigated joy in finding the car of his dreams, and the second, the frustration and of purchasing such a vehicle via channels that allow over embellishment and inaccuracies.
Purchased a year ago, it immediately became apparent that the alluring Corniche wasn't all that he thought it to be! Broadly speaking, it was the mechanicals side of things that had been severely neglected or worse still, handled by people without the necessary expertise.
Being a pragmatic chap, he took it on the chin and set about finding a suitable Rolls-Royce specialist that would help reclaim what is fundamentally a good car but with engineering needs, into a very nice looking and useable Corniche that will perform, handle, drive and function as it should..
Renowned Paul Brown of A&S Engineering was approached and given really carte blanche. Oddly he last saw the car back in 1992, but evidently quiet alot had changed during this 32 year period!
It's virtually impossible to encapsulate every facet of work undertaken, needless to say, it amounted to 6 months of Paul's blood, sweat and tears' and a staggering £49,847 of invoices. In actual fact, there are 15 pages of 'works' narrative plus 10 pages of invoicing.
As one can imagine, in no way an ideal scenario given the original auction cost was £25,000. Not unsurprisingly, the owner is somewhat deflated and sadly feels his journey has come to an end.
There a couple of further things to attend to, insomuch, the walnut dash was beautifully re-veneered but not the rear veneers, money being used in preference elsewhere, and there's a widget in the A/C system that's needs attention - happily we can attend to these should the next keeper wish.
The two tone paint work, Willow Gold over Wendy Brown breaks up the blandness of the a single colour and in my opinion compliments the shape perfectly. The interior has nicely mellowed and is a supremely comfortable place to be. Other than items I mention above, everything works as it should.
The written history and previous MOTs from 1977, happily all go towards verifying the odometer reading of 72,465.
I doubt any of the other available FHC's on the market today have had such a thoroughly comprehensive and recent mechanical going over.
Available now at HALF THE PRICE of the accumulative purchase price & costs recently incurred.
A monumental amount of works to reclaim this Corniche but the end result is certainly very impressive.
It would be a pleasure to answer any questions you might have. However, to really appreciate this Rolls-Royce, it needs to be seen “in the flesh”, so do please call me directly on +44(0)1737 844999 to arrange a viewing.
