Some thoughts on this model
1968 Bentley T Series Saloon was a significant model for Bentley as it represented a bridge between the traditional luxury cars of the past and the more modern, technically advanced vehicles that would come later.
While sharing much with its Rolls-Royce sibling, the Bentley T Series retained its own identity, appealing to a customer base that appreciated luxury with a slightly sportier edge.
Being an earlier built saloon, it pleasingly has some production features only common to this period of build....unquestionably, the Chippendale dashboard is hugely appealing as is the earlier chrome inner door handles, all of which set the interior apart from a later Crewe built car. The smaller capacity V8 is notably smoother and twinned at this time to 4 speed automatic but is often deemed inferior to the later larger 6750cc V8 but certainly not in this instance, as both work and perform beautifully.
Happily we have known and cared for this stunning Bentley over a 34 year period, thus have an intimate knowledge of the car, allowing us to offer a worthwhile opinion on its condition and market appeal.
We some 20 odd years ago, carried out a full restoration of the car, repainting it in the original Tudor Grey along with an engine & mechanical rebuild. Remarkably the leather is original, although carpets and interior wood has had attention over the years.
The quality of this historical work was evidently very good, as the Bentley today is in excellent condition but much of the merit must be attributed to each of the subsequent 4 keepers, who have individually continued to maintain SBH 3991 correctly, spending sensible monies when they have been deemed them necessary and continually improving it along the way.
Obviously other than ongoing maintenance, the most notable upgrade in recent years has been been the fitment of a Harvey Bailey Handling Kit and more recently Bilstein dampers too, both of which have vastly improved the driving and handing of the car. Actually the works/service included new tyres, a feature most people over look as expensive, but enormously help the drivability of a 56 year old car.
The current owner is a Swedish gentleman who has for years said, "to hell with the expense" & simply used it whilst here visiting family and friends, indulging himself with the joy of owning his own Bentley rather than hiring some modern metal at the airport!
Sadly these trips are happening less, thus it's with regret he has decided its time for someone else to take over the reins, hence a wonderful & rare opportunity for another to enjoy what must be one the very best examples available.
There's a huge history file, commencing with Royce/Ranmore invoices from 1990 until the present. Pleasingly, the individual responsible for the Bentley's care over the entire period is still with us, so there's a unique opportunity here to discuss in depth this lovely Bentley, that wouldn't normally be available.
It would be a pleasure to answer any questions you might have. However, to really appreciate this Bentley, it needs to be seen “in the flesh”, so do please call me directly on 07788 865700 to arrange a viewing.
A full description will follow shortly but in the meantime do please call me on +44(0)7788 865700 should you wish to discuss the Bentley in further detail.
