Some thoughts on this model
We are delighted to welcome this beautifully preserved Bentley S1 by James Young. In fact the Bromley works only built 26 of these B10 bodied cars, so an exceptionally rare sight on the road today and especially so when presented in such superb condition.
Supplied new by Jack Barclays to Lord Mullens on 26th September 1958 who was to remain behind the wheel until it sold and subsequently exported across the 'Pond' in 1974. Given the history on file one can be confident that the Bentley was beautifully cared by the following 3 American owners before being repatriated by the renowned Rolls-Royce Bentley Specialist Peter Fischer in 1990.
There followed a further two UK keepers before the present gentleman took over the reins in 2009.
This car has been exceptionally well cared for by him, with again the invoice/history confirming diligent upkeep, which has afforded the owner a great deal of time and pleasure behind the wheel; several tours of GB and Europe including two Summer trips to the south of Spain and Portugal.
In addition to the substantial upkeep along the way, it was decided in October 2016 to undertake major works and strip the car for a full repaint.
The interior was removed first, dismantling the woodwork and sending all 23 pieces for stripping and polishing. It was decided that the patina of age accumulated to the leather would be best served by a silk finish so the wood didn't look too new.
This interior dismantling took in excess of 120 hours, and once finished the car was sent for stripping and painting.
The aluminium was surprisingly sound and just required a few welding repairs, as did the chassis, albeit the inner sills were replaced. The car was originally Midnight Blue when it left the factory but was changed by Peter Fischer to Shell over Tudor Grey with the original leather recoloured mid tan.
The repaint during 2017 saw the colour changed to the existing Antelope over Buttermilk, very much in keeping with cars elegance and grace...happily the beautifully patinated mid tan leather remains.
Evidently this is just a brief over view of the cars history which pleasingly can be easily collaborated via the large history file. Notwithstanding it's fast approaching its 70th Birthday, the detailed history gives us confidence that mileage shown is likely to be correct.
It would be a pleasure to answer any questions you might have. However, to really appreciate this fabulous Bentley it needs to be seen “in the flesh”, so do please call me directly on 07788 865700 to arrange a viewing at our new Redhill showroom.
