Some thoughts on this model
Highly regarded 'Alsa Automotive' were recently asked to carry out a total repaint. Pleasingly, accompanying their detailed invoice (£5,750) are 130 digital photographs mapping the cars dismantle and its subsequent painting and reassembly. The GM Starfire Silver paintwork is impossible to fault, there is not a ripple or ding in sight. The correct HS graphics and stripes have been correctly applied too. The eight-spoke Chevrolet Vega Alloy wheels have been stripped and powder coated and look as new. The red and black tartan cloth interior is unmarked.
The Mot's indicate the odometer reading of 40,111 is correct, this 'HS' has clearly been cherished. The engine belts were replaced within the last 3000 miles and in January this year the engine was properly set-up with the fuelling and ignition tuning together with a dyno test which from the attached photograph report confirms a 158 bhp.
The lure of the twin Weber 48 carburettors and a slick Getrag 5 speed gearbox have proved too much for me; its a phenomenal little car and the live axle makes it a hoot to drive. Indeed, Russell Brookes who knows a thing or two about driving, was quoted as saying, that he "considered the car to be one of the finest handling rally cars I've driven". Hugely collectable, especially so in this near perfect condition, this HS must be the best available today.
