Some thoughts on this model
The man responsible for this project and the staggering detail, fit and finish was Steve MacKellar - obsessed with Porsche since the early 1970's, he acquired this 911 back in 2013 and although highly original and unmolested, having sat idle for over 20 years, it required a great deal of attention.
Although having superb garage facilities including a paint booth at home, some parts of the project, namely transmission, engine and paint were quite correctly outsourced to known Porsche specialists. Steve took the initial responbility for the strip down, meticulously cataloguing, plus sending off of the 700 odd parts and hardware for necessary blasting ad re-plating.
The time consuming job of reassembly and in particular at this stage, perfecting panel fit and perserving the flawless paintwork, seemingly endless fitment of new rubber trims, gaskets and seals, plus associated aluminum anodized trims was a huge task. Much of the interior is original and in excellent condition but where needed (like the recovering of the leather sports seats) other vital and correct Porsche parts were incorporated to ensure the overall appearance matched the quality of the complete restoration.
The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirms the restoration has not changed from its original build specification....finished in silver metallic with black sports seats, koni shocks instead of 'Boge', engine compartment light and tinted glass.
Having completed the project this two owner Porsche was offered for sale and brought across to the UK - it was a complete 'no-brainer' for the current owner who is again another seasoned Porsche enthusiast and has amongst others in his fleet a modern Porsche Carrera GT along with a 1965 911 race car ++. Apart from the modern Carrera, all of his kit is looked after by Steve Monk, who many of you will know has a very capable pair of hands and actively races his 65 911 aswell!
Having been UK registered and prepared for sale by Steve, this 2.4S is completely on the button and requires absolutely nothing other than a new keeper to enjoy many contented miles. Not withstanding the immense cost of a completely new restoration, there is also a significant time element to consider, evidently this 'as new' 911 also negates a lengthy wait.
There is a wonderfully bound photographic history of its restoration which includes narrative from Steve MacKellar, a Porsche COA on file, original books and wallet plus period Porsche brochures and an original second set of keys!
The scope and execution of the works completed on behalf of the last owner, has bought this left hand drive example to its current outstanding condition. Very lightly used since completed, the car is ready for its next custodian to cherish and enjoy.
