Some thoughts on this model
It's interesting to note that in 1971 Porsche manufactured just 1,430 of these D series 911 2.2S for the European market, compared to 1,590 of their mighty RS Carrera built during 1973...small numbers indeed.
This lovely 2.2S was first registered in Spain on 16th June 1971, remaining there until it was purchased by a Swedish gentleman and exported to Stockholm and registered by him there in 2008.
Subsequently shipped by the same owner to the UK in March 2009 into the care of renowned Porsche Specialists, Francis Tuthill Ltd for restoration. Works included a engine and gearbox rebuild along with a bare metal repaint.
The brief was simple with huge emphasis put on retaining its original build specification and where ever possible, as much of the original factory componentry too (Cibie driving lights, aluminium engine lid and Recaros, all in tact.).....some seven years later the exceptionally high quality of Tuthills work is still clearly evident, not really surprising as original invoicing amounted to nearly £50,000.
Further works were undertaken by Tuthills in 2013 just prior to the current owners' purchase who again has beautifully maintained and cherished it, as evidenced by the yearly OPC (7 x Porsche Centre Mid Sussex) service stamps & mots, with the most recent being in August 2020, being just 100 miles ago.
During 2014 the owner was approached by 'Total 911' magasine requesting his car's inclusion into an ultimate road test challenge between 3 pre-impact bumper 'S' models...it won that shoot out hands down plus addition accolade of first place in Josh's favourite 911 of the year road test....both of these articles are on file.
This Porsche drive beautifully, is completely on the button and literally wants for nothing. Please note its original oval Durant mirrors and seat-belts are available with the car....upgraded in both cases for ease of use and safety. There is a discreetly installed modern immobiliser plus battery isolator switch. Its original tools and jack remain with the car.
It would be a pleasure to answer any further questions you might have. This Porsche can be inspected at my Guildford showroom - please call me on 07788 865700.
