Some thoughts on this model
I think Jaguar's own narrative from the period sums up the XJ-S Convertible perfectly: "The concept of a completely open topped Jaguar, last seen in the legendary E Type, is gloriously reborn in the XJ-S V12 Convertible. Here, all the power, precise handling and elegance of a Grand Touring car are enhanced by a tailored hood of unique design that opens and closes at the touch of a button".
I've handled the sale of quite a few of these cars over the years, including more recently, a fine V12 Coupe that was previously owned by Harry Metcalf and although that was a lovely original car, there will be few other XJ-S V12's, especially any Convertibles, that compare favourably with this one, as its condition, mileage and history are all exemplary.
Originally supplied to its first owner Mr. Brown by Dutton Forshaw, Maidstone, in March 1989 as a present to his wife, it was then re-registered in his own name during 1991, and kept by him until sadly passing away in July 2014, when ownership passed to the family solicitor. There was one further change on the V5 before the last keeper purchased it during December the same year.
The car has been beautifully looked after and evidently cherished from day one and nothing to date has changed. Apart from a few small gaps over the years where there was minimal mileage covered, the service book is completely full with stamps up and until 2017, thereupon, you will find associated paper invoices for servicing every year since, with the last in Oct 2021, which along with the MOTs on files all help authenticate its 33,000 mileage.
The Alpine green paint work is exceptional, as is the magnolia leather interior, which is virtually like new.All wood veneers are original and have no lacquer crazing nor any sun bleaching.....even the original factory Jaguar branded stereo remains, which is rare in its own right.
The electric roof works perfectly and there's a modern wind deflector cleverly installed which certainly enhances passenger comfort. As you see in some of the photographs, the door sills have a plastic covering in place, so again remain free of scratches.
Behind the wheel it is super comfortable, even for an 18st 6ft chap like me, whilst the V12 5.3 litre engine gives turbine smoothness along with effortless performance. There has been one enhancement, the fitment of a Harvey Bailey cross brace, which 'HB' actually designed for Jaguar and became standard on later cars...essentially it helps eliminate scuttle shake and in situ here as a worthy upgrade. The boot carpet and the plastic battery covering is original, as is the complete tool box, carjack in its carpet roll and surprisingly the unused spare wheel. Following suit, the alloys are all perfect too.
Rarely available nowadays in this condition, it would be a pleasure to answer any further questions you might have. This Jaguar can be inspected at my Guildford showroom - do please call rather than email me directly on 07788 865700.
