Some thoughts on this model
This Moose Green example was first registered 7th February 1990 and according to factory chassis records, is only one of 20 Le Mans 7.0 Litre produced. Chassis # 069LJ is the full monty....which means twin radial super chargers (giving 10psi at maximum speed) and a whooping 604 bhp @ 6000rpm. I understand every available option was ticked, which included a BMW sourced 6 spd gearbox, massive 6 pot AP front brakes (only 4 pot on the rear!) with ABS, modified suspension: firmer bushes, shorter springs, Koni adjustable dampers and a revised rear subframe with lower wishbone mounts. The body belches huge arches, spoilers and skirts; it's very much 80's excess and rather menacing....the massive alloys reinforce the car's aggressive stance further....the rears being shod with tarmac ripping 13' wide 335/35 ZR17 Pirelli P Zeros, whilst the fronts are only 10' !
A pair of wonderful Recaros adorn the parchment clad leather interior, sensibly the top roll is in dark green to negate reflection, otherwise the interior is pure luxury XJS. As is the norm, I've slide behind the wheel on a couple of occasions now and certainly this big 'CAT' does not disappoint. Once warm, the throw of the 6 speed box is suprisingly light, as is the clutch....noise and performance is heroic throughout the entire rev range and the car feels very well planted....remember there's 612 lb ft @ 4000 rpm, so there is never any real need to extend this engine.
In short, a spectacular British motor car.
