Some thoughts on this model
Back in the 80's & 90's it wasn't difficult to take you pick from a host of badly deteriorating E Types, oddly many had been in long term ownership, with the ever faithful owners determined to find a way of getting the restoration back on track or even on its way !
Of all the E Types models, the Series 2 car, I guess almost entirely due to the North American safely enhancements, hasn't always been the pick of crop.
That said, the smart money always saw them in a more positive light, as being the last incarnation, it had many improvements built into it, all of which certainly improved the driving environ.
This superb Series II FHC certainly met much of the said criteria, insomuch it was seen languishing on a driveway in 1998 by the renowned Jaguar builder/restorer Colin Ford, who found its alluring originality very appealing! Evidently he quickly shook hands and carted it away.
There's little to add about Mr Ford's legendary ability to build, restore and maintain Jaguars, so I won't drill down on its actual complete rebuild here. However, what I would say is that it was beautifully done and the resulting car graced the pages of 'Classic Jaguar World' back in 2002 prior to its sale the same year.
Once completed Mr Ford used the car extensively...one can see from the MOT history that the odometer was evidently zeroed at the time of its build and then had increased to 3,000 miles prior to its sale in 2002.
Over the 18 years the next sensible owner increased the mileage by 10,000, evidently enjoying being behind the wheel. Throughout this time it continued to be maintained by C.F. Autos (Colin Ford) and latterly Mr K.J.C. Bell at his workshop near Guildford.
Those in the know will recognize this other name synonymous with all things Jaguar, as Ken Bell worked for John Coombs in period modifying customer road cars, and the occasional privately owned race car.
When the owner decided to offer the Jaguar for sale, a member of the Bell family very happily stepped into the breach and has enjoyed the ownership ever since. Certainly it hasn't been a challenge, as I can attest too and say with real conviction, that this is certainly the best driving Fixed Head Coupe that I've driven, period.
There's really super performance on tap, it handles perfectly too, whilst the gearbox is a delight and there's no adverse noises to report from the rear end.
As you will notice, the Jaguar's beautiful lines haven't been spoilt with the addition of external mirrors. Cleverly mounted internally on either A pillars are two small convex mirrors that give increased rear visibility. As an aside, the gentleman who's just purchased our restored Series 2 OTS, upon seeing these, he immediately ordered a pair...they really are an excellent idea & work exceptionally well.
The car today is in simply lovely condition. The light blue paint work is still very vibrant and belies its age as does the interior...everything about the car is first class, there's simply nothing to find fault with.
There's a independent report on file and the summary reads, 'this vehicle has been restored correctly to a very high standard, the finish of some areas being literally better than new'....nothing has changed, so join the smart money & come and see this fabulous E Type, you won't be disappointed.
It would be a pleasure to answer any questions you might have. However, to really appreciate this E Type it needs to be seen “in the flesh”, so do please call me directly on 07788 865700 to arrange a viewing at our new Redhill showroom.
