Some thoughts on this model
Not content with having recently finished the MKII, a new E Type project was undertaken which was to last 20 months. Originality was pivotal to their search and chassis # 20193 certainly did not disappoint, plus as an early 1965 4.2 car, it carried over a number of features from the out going 3.8 car, amongst others, a glass washer bottle and rubber gear gaitor - each were to change to plastic and leather latterly. Another big plus was just three former keepers in 54 years, the first two being father and son, whilst the third, although owning for 18 years, never drove the Jaguar but crucially had left it untouched and totally intact.
Evidently preservation was vitally important, so it was painstakingly dismantled so that where ever possible all parts, glass and interior could be then reintroduced. The finished product does not disappoint on any level having being accurately and fastidiously rebuilt to its 1965 factory specification. Note please the precise panel gaps, not any easy task!
The correct opalescent silver blue paint contrasts perfectly with the original dark blue leather interior - just two items of the interior were replaced, the bottom portion of both door cards together with the fabric headlining. As you will notice from the photographs, the inside the car is virtually unblemished with only a few age related marks that add to its character.
Mechanically everything has been overhauled and/or rebuilt including engine, gearbox and brakes plus a new engine frame was deemed necessary. The factory wires have been stove enamelled and shod with correct sized Dunlop radial tyres (cross ply look) which add beautifully to the period look. As you would expect both its tool roll and jack are present and importantly everything is matching numbers.
Once behind the wheel one can fully understand why they decided against an embellished or upgraded car, as the original design and driving environment of this 4.2 is arguably the 'pick of the crop'.
It would be a pleasure to answer any further questions you might have. This Jaguar can be inspected at my Guildford showroom - please call me on 07788 865700.
