Some thoughts on this model
One cannot always work on the assumption that everybody desires a completely faithfully 'as built' restored car.
This Jaguar is a case in point, insomuch, all the work that was carried at the point of restoration, was driven by individual's choice and not by a desire to replicate a factory specification rebuilt car.
Having owned it for 35 years prior to the restoration taking place, the Canadian gentleman had purchased it whilst working in the UK during 1970 and used it extensively touring about 'Blighty' before they and the Jaguar returned to Canada. After a further year or so of being laid up it became apparent much work was needed, sadly a young growing family didn't allow the expenditure.
If we leap forward 35 years to 2005, time and money now allowed him the opportunity to undertake a total ground-up restoration. This was entrusted to Jagmaster, a Canadian Jaguar specialist who worked periodically on the car until 2010. Pleasingly there are photos on file showing it in different states of repair/rebuild.
The resulting Jaguar certainly makes a bold statement as its dark metallic green paint work, evidently a non standard E Type colour, looks to my mind quite fabulous. The darkened windows, again a personal preference but look again rather good, as does the 'Jaguar' etching on both the rear quarter windows...something I've never seen before.
With one or two exceptions, the interior is pure 3.8....interesting it was decided to cover the sills and boot/luggage area with carpet, actually a sensible idea as they do become scuffed and worn with age.
As an aside, it was displayed at the NEC by Heritage Classics whom the current owner purchased it from earlier this year...simply a change of circumstance necessitates it now being offered for sale.
A really well prepared early car with some sensible and carefully thought-out updates which presents and drives exceedingly well. There's a Heritage Certificate on file assuring its UK origins and its matching numbers status.
It would be a pleasure to answer any questions you might have. However, to really appreciate this Jaguar, it needs to be seen “in the flesh”, so do please call me directly on 01737 844999 to arrange a viewing.
