Julien's Perspective

Some thoughts on this model

Originally built by Norman Fletcher of Fletcher Boats fame in response to a French trade embargo in place at end of the 60's that prevented Fletcher exporting their boats to France, which at the time was their main market. Fletcher took the decision to branch out and begin manufacturing cars as an addition revenue stream to their more established business of producing glass fibre leisure boats, ie. their famous Fletcher Arrow design.

This car was originally built and displayed at the 1967 Earls Court Race Car Show (photograph shows in its white unpainted gel-coat sharing the Mountley Steering wheel stand) and latterly developed by Broadspeed for John Handley to compete in 1967 Targa Florio where sadly it didn't race due to financial restraints.

There after painted green and competed in club racing and then into rally sport during the late 70' & 80's when its livery changed to red/white/blue.

More recently purchased by its current owner with interesting family period business links to Issigonis. Prepared and repainted for him in the traditional Broadspeed livery of maroon and silver, this being as per Ralph Broads original intention back in 1967. Just one outing at Spa since its rebuild which demonstrated its pace and capability, out dragging a Lotus 26R's through Eau Rouge!. The almost fresh Dave 'SH' Wells engine is a complete peach producing more than 140bhp.

Previously on display at Goodwood's 50th Mini Anniversary Celebrations back in 2009, this Fletcher Ogle remains hugely eligible for the Revival and other historic sporting meets - in actual fact he was contacted by Goodwood regarding the car competing in an A Series Race eligible to run against pre-67 GT's.

This magnificent race car can be inspected at my Guildford showroom - it would be a pleasure to answer any further questions you might have so please me directly on 07788 865700
