Some thoughts on this model
With its iconic rear-engine design and body of less that 3 metres long, this was the founding-father for the 'city-car'. Infact, Sir Alec Issigonis freely admitted that, when conceptualising the Mini, the 500 was an early inspiration in how to build a small car.
The 500D started production in 1960, replacing the original Nuova. However, the 500D kept many of the key features of the first 500, most notably the suicide doors and the folding fabric sunroof. Displacement and power were also increased in the 500D to a heady 17hp engine and remained virtually unchanged until production ceased in 1973.
This particular low mileage example which was last sold by renowned Ferrari Specialist, Joe Macari some 2 years ago, and had undergone a full engine and body-work restoration prior to its sale by them.
Immaculately finished in White with a tricolore stripe and green two-tone interior, it is one of the most beautiful examples of a true automotive icon.
Interesting recent history and completely on the button, it's all ready for summer sunshine !
