Delorean DM 12

1981

Delorean
The DeLorean Motor Company tale is filled with glitz, glamour and intrigue. Part of our 1980's industrial and social history the car had a stint on the red carpet as the famous film prop; so if you like the idea of an interesting and undemanding automotive curio which will still attracts more attention than any passing Ferrari, there remains more to be said for the DeLorean than its reputation would ever suggest.

Julien's Perspective

Some thoughts on this model

The majority when asked will say it's the gullwing doors that are the most memorable feature, but for me it's the handling and suspension; I have to say, having driven this example extensively in the last week, its compliant ride and steering accuracy are exceptionally good and amongst the best I have experienced from cars of this era - remember it was engineered by Lotus and thus featured double-wishbone suspension at the front and a multi-link arrangement at the rear' the configuration preferred by most supercar manufacturers to this day.

This is a very well known Delorean club car and its condition is first class. Having arrived this side of the pond in 2002, each successive owner has evidently spent good time and money on maintenance, that said, it's the last owner who has significantly invested in the car and lavished more than ₤10,000 over 3 years. In so doing the correct DeLorean parts and specialist mechanical expertise have been employed which must make this DM12 one of the best available.

Needless to say, the history file is extensive and details the substantial recent works which importantly includes the re-brushing of the stainless steel body by marque specialists. Other notable upgrades have been the fitment of Spax fully adjustable suspension and a stainless steel exhaust along with a host of other genuine Delorean replacements parts plus known wear and tear items that deteriorate on these cars with use over time.

Pleasingly, the original bill of sale remains along with the factory handbooks and as previously stated, a comprehensive written history. In this condition it's a rewarding and fun car to own and a very sound investment based on its rarity and quality of history to date. Having literally just been serviced there is nothing further to do, other than enjoy!

It would be a pleasure to answer any further questions you might have. The DeLorean can be inspected at my Guildford showroom - please call me on 07788 865700.
