Some thoughts on this model
I've known the owner of this rather lovely and extremely rare 1930 Bianchi S5 for approaching 40 years, he in turn has owned it remarkably for over 60 years!
His association with Pre-War cars has been literally one of a life-time's involvement, probably inherited from his Father who had plenty of lovely kit.
Evidently there's an immense and fascinating story attached to his ownership; I certainly know he will very willing to impart this to the next fortunate owner, perhaps over leisurely lunch which I will happily stand!
In short he stumbled across it on or about his 16th birthday and set about a 'student' funded restoration which would see him through until the 70's, after which it was used infrequently & then finally taken of the road and stored. He didn't tackle the job probably again until 2003, when it was taken out of hibernation and he duly set forth upon a ground up rebuild. Along the way a huge number of very well known specialist have helped with the car & the necessary engineering....just brief flick through the available invoices you'll see names such names as, Ro-Ben, Sigma Engineering, Vintage Restorations and a host of similar names. In fact, the written history file goes back to 1970, so there's plenty of bed-time reading to be enjoyed.
More recently repainted and re-upholstered, the red coachwork & black interior suits the Bianchi, better than I guess the likely more subdued colours on offer from the factory in period. Everything works as it should, the 1300cc engine surprises you with its turn of speed, that said, it's on par performance-wise with Austin 7's and alike....better still it accommodates 4-5 people with ease, so highly usable. I know latterly it was a frequently driven to Goodwood from his home near Haslemere and used regularly until quite recently.
From a recent search we understand there is perhaps just one other Bianchi in the UK, but certainly not many else where either. Production of S5 started in 1928 and had finished by 1932, so I suppose only a few left given you only ever see them very occasional advertised in Europe.
Membership of any exclusive clubs normally come at a high price.....given I've recently sold a rare Supercharged Austin Seven for nearly double this money, then this Bianchi offered today in its as built specification along with its 'one owner 60 year' status, must in my view be a tremendous buy.
It would be a pleasure to answer any questions you might have. However, to really appreciate this fabulous Bianchi it needs to be seen “in the flesh”, so do please call me directly on 07788 865700 to arrange a viewing at our new Redhill showroom.
