Some thoughts on this model
Delving into the Moke's design history, I had forgotten that Sir Alec Issigonis had been the brains behind the “Moke” as well of course the legendary Mini; he really was a brilliant and revolutionary designer as he used an identical engine, transmission and suspension parts to the Mini and as a result, it was really fun to drive.
This lovely home market Moke was produced in September 1965,thus just a year into its production, and sold by Wimbledon Motors Ltd.Pleasingly the Heritage certificate on file confirms its was originally spruce green and that it retains its original body, and the interior is correct such as it is, so very nice to see a standard looking car running the correct 10”wheels.
At some stage reasonably early on, the engine was uprated to a 998 Cooper unit which provides a lot more performance over the original 850 engine. Further sensible upgrades which have been fitted include the period "Mini Grand Prix" gear change conversion, which is much nicer to use than the original 'wand' type and was advertised widely in the 1960's, plus a later Mk2 steering column which provides more space behind the wheel.
Recently sympathetically recommissioned, the Moke is in perfect order.
Extraordinarily rare as a one owner car and again so being original and unmolested.....plenty of imported Portuguese and Australian cars come up for grabs, but like many things, the original almost always carries more charm and appeal. I suppose, the old adage, 'less is more' has never been more appropriate than when describing the Mini Moke.
It would be a pleasure to answer any further questions you might have. This Moke can be inspected at my Guildford showroom - please call me directly on 07788 865700.
