Some thoughts on this model
It's noteworthy of mentioning that 'Car Mart' was founded by Major R.S. King in 1908. Being at the time one of central London's oldest dealerships, it had dealt with many distinguished marques over the years, including Angus-Sanderson, Sizaire-Berwick, Fiat, Singer, Bean, Rolls-Royce and Daimler cars.
Later, Sir Herbert Austin personally invited Major King to take on the distribution rights for Austin Cars London and some Home Counties; interestingly in 1947 they presented an Austin Sheerline to HRH The Queen and Prince Philip on the occasion of their wedding.
With minimal ownership since 1967, it's the last keeper that has indulged the 1275 S thoughout his 26 years of ownership. Having been purchased from Sporting Cars of Brighton in 1989, it almost immediately went off to Abingdon High Performance Ltd for extensive engine, gearbox and suspension works. Although the original and matching engine is available and remains with the car, it was decided to install a high performance Janspeed unit.
There are realms of invoices detailing its specification and evidencing money spent, plus pleasingly a spread sheet with exact tallies of all invoices. Notwithstanding the mechanical elements, the body was in need of some remedial work, plus it was treated to a repaint, again detailed invoices show an expenditure of £7000.
A really rapid and agile little car which delights each time one is behind the wheel.....something I can happily attest to having had the delight of driving her this week.
