Julien's Perspective

Some thoughts on this model

This matching numbers car is in original specification. The body is in supremely good order with great panel gaps and resplendent in its 'Aquablau' colour, the subject of an older, quality repaint. The exterior fittings in anodised and chrome trim of the GL model are in superb condition and complement the original and rare factory-option vinyl roof in black. The windscreen is clear and all the window glass and seals original. The interior is remarkably well preserved down to the original carpets and over-mats, immaculate dashboard and padding and black velour seats unmarked front and rear. The instruments, heating and lighting controls are complete and fully functioning including the period 'Autovox' stereo radio-cassette player and speakers. The odometer now shows a mileage of just over 37,400 miles and this we think is very plausible given the way the car feels - light, tight and responsive

The mercedes-designed 1871cc engine starts on the button, idles consistently and with 112 BHP on tap pulls the Audi saloon along with ease. The 4 speed manual gearbox is quiet and the shifting is precise. Being a late model, the car has the outboard front disc brakes which make for much easier maintenance on the front wheel drive set up. The current owner has recently had undertaken recommissioning of the cooling system including head skim and gasket, new water pump and fuel lines and the car has just had a mini-service. Brand new Michelin XAS tyres have been fitted which suit the chassis perfectly for grip and a very compliant comfortable ride.

The Audi has a current MOT until September 2016 and includes the original service book stamped up to 29,283 miles. The owner's handbook, radio-cassette instructions and maintenance provenance are present in the car's folder along with original 1975 sales brochures.

In summary a rare Audi, beautifully preserved and 'up and together' ready for many more miles of reliable nostalgic 1970's motoring
